Hackensack council adopts property‑acquisition and rent‑stabilization ordinances, introduces development agreement

The Hackensack City Council acted on three ordinances during its June 16 meeting.
Ordinance 09‑2026, authorizing acquisition of real property known as block 303, lot 19 (commonly 153–155 Main Street) and permitting eminent‑domain acquisition if necessary, completed its second and final reading and passed by roll call vote. No public commenters spoke at the ordinance hearing.
Ordinance 10‑2026, amending Chapter 134 of the municipal code (rent stabilization), was also adopted on its second and final reading. The ordinance changes the composition of the rent stabilization board and the applicability of regulations under the chapter; the council opened and closed the public hearing with no public comments and then adopted the ordinance by roll call.
The council introduced Ordinance 11‑2026 on first reading. That ordinance authorizes execution of a financial agreement between the city and Kgroup Venture Urban Renewal LLC in connection with property at 15, 17 and 21 Hiler Street (block 10719, lots 15–17 and a portion of lot 1). The introduced ordinance passed first reading and was scheduled for final passage at the council meeting on June 30, 2026.
