Cheatham County waives wheel tax for volunteer firefighters, extends Sweethome rezoning moratorium and removes stop sign

The resolution authorizes a waiver for active volunteer members with at least one year of service for one vehicle, upon certification or sworn statement from the fire department chief and compliance with state motor-vehicle registration laws. The motion passed by roll call (9 Yes, 0 No, 2 Absent).
Sweethome Road rezoning moratorium
The commission extended an existing moratorium on rezonings on a portion of Sweethome Road for two years, moving the moratorium to Dec. 31, 2026. The original moratorium was adopted in August 2021 and previously extended. The extension was adopted by roll call (9 Yes, 0 No, 2 Absent).
Traffic sign removal
The commission approved removing a stop sign on Lockertsville Road (SE toward Ed Harris Road) by voice vote. The minutes record the motion and the voice approval (2 Absent).
Why it matters
The wheel-tax waiver reduces a local vehicle privilege tax for eligible volunteer firefighters, a targeted policy intended to support volunteer emergency services. The Sweethome moratorium continues to restrict rezoning that would increase residential density along the road corridor while county and state authorities consider longer-term traffic and safety improvements.
