Residents voice opposition to TVA and raise zoning, veterans-office concerns during Cheatham County public forum

Tracy A. O'Neill, a property owner on Macon Wall Road, spoke in opposition to the Tennessee Valley Authority and said there will be a TVA meeting Nov. 7; Virginia Gaylord, a property owner on Lockertsville Road, also opposed TVA plans and said she does not want her road widened or altered to accommodate TVA trucks. The minutes show both speakers raised objections to proposed TVA activity near their properties.
Two property owners from Poplar Ridge Road, Ashlie Farmer and Carmen Irizarry‑Zellmann, voiced concerns that Hope Center Ministries was not in compliance with county zoning rules and thanked commissioners for pursuing enforcement and the pending legal actions. Chairman Tim Williamson asked County Attorney Michael Bligh for an update; Bligh told the commission the matter is currently under appeal with the Board of Zoning Appeals and that if the appeal is denied the county will continue with the lawsuit.
On veterans' issues, Harold Hodges and Robert Counter spoke in support of the Veterans Service Office (VSO) and described efforts to raise scholarship and utility assistance funds for veterans. Human Resources Director Shelly Carney told the commission she conducted an investigation following a complaint and found "zero findings of negative infractions" inside the VSO; Carney said she had met with Mike Scholes, Deputy Commissioner with the State of Tennessee, who agreed with her report. Commissioner Diana Pike Lovell thanked veterans for their service.
