North Logan sets 2026 fireworks sale and discharge windows; fire chief reports staffing changes and rising incidents

The North Logan City Council on May 20 approved the Fire Chief’s recommendations for private fireworks sales and discharge windows for 2026 and heard a Fire Department report on staffing and recent incident trends.
Fire Chief Nate Thompson presented the recommended restricted boundary (primary boundary along 1600 East) and the legal dates for sales and discharge: legal sales June 24–July 25; discharge windows July 2–5 (11 a.m.–11 p.m., with July 4 extended until midnight) and July 22–25 (11 a.m.–11 p.m., with July 24 extended until midnight). Thompson warned of increasing statewide wildfire concerns and noted that the State Fire Marshal would determine any additional restrictions.
The council voted unanimously to approve the Fire Chief’s recommended dates and geographic boundaries. Thompson also reported personnel changes: Operations Chief Robert LaCroix retired after 34 years; promotions included Josh Francis to Operations Chief, Andy Shock to Assistant EMS Chief and Steve Sorensen to Training Chief. Recruitment is planned for June with two to three firefighter hires expected. Thompson said fire incidents, especially brush and rubbish fires, have increased across contracted cities and discussed planning for a future Zone 73 fire station.
