County Fire reports May response data; board receives mandatory inspection summary
Summary
County Fire briefed the Los Osos board on May response statistics and completed state-mandated occupant inspections. Division Chief Travis Craig presented May call totals; County Fire representative Kevin Mlan reported completion of required inspections (roughly five schools and 26 residential occupancies) and said the department will work with owners to correct violations as needed.
The Los Osos Community Services District received the May 2026 fire operations report and a County Fire update on required annual inspections.
Division Chief Travis Craig reported that the district responded to 86 calls in May: 77 medical aids, six traffic accidents, one surf rescue, five public assists, one structure fire and one vegetation fire. Craig said annual testing and maintenance were completed for ladders, extrication tools, self-contained breathing apparatus, and AEDs; the new command vehicle was placed in service and staff will seek board approval to declare the old utility 15 a surplus vehicle for sale. Station 15 South Bay is accepting reserve firefighter applications, with physical ability tests and oral interviews planned after the new fiscal year.
Kevin Mlan, County Fire, noted state-mandated inspections following post-2018 regulatory changes and reported that County Fire completed inspections for district occupancies: “I think it was five schools and 26 residentials,” he said, adding that the department prioritizes working with owners to correct violations in a timely manner.
Board members had no further questions on the fire report and there was no public comment on the item. The board accepted the report as presented during the meeting's consent agenda.
