Superintendent announces two principal hires, outlines curriculum priorities and staffing progress

Superintendent Dr. Sampson told the board that Tina Ponce will become principal at Murray Avenue School effective July 1 and that Dr. Andrea Hamilton will be principal at Chatsworth Avenue School, citing Ponce's prior service as assistant principal and Hamilton's extensive administrative experience in other districts.
"Tina Ponce will be the new principal effective July 1 at Murray Avenue School," Dr. Sampson said, and welcomed Dr. Hamilton's experience after noting she has many years as an assistant and building principal in other districts.
Dr. Sampson also thanked staff and board members involved in revising the district code of conduct and publicly acknowledged Joanne Rice on her final board meeting. He recognized internship mentors and students who worked on a project to evaluate use of the high-school cube, naming Max Cooper and Megan Hugelmeyer for their contributions.
Dr. Moore presented the curriculum office's summer and next-year priorities, centering on three strategic threads: data literacy, adult collaboration and goal-setting. Moore described new data-collection and analysis systems, PSAT analysis informing curriculum revisions, and an expansion of instructional coaching across buildings. "Instead of, 'our kids did well or not well on this particular test,'" Moore said, "we want to turn assessments into actionable next steps."
Moore also described rollout plans for the AVID program at the middle school, common ELA writing units for grades 3–5 (with expansion to lower grades next year), and an emerging technology plan with measurable goals to avoid overuse of screens.
Dr. Sampson reported the district is "almost fully staffed" for the new year, saying the district saw marked improvement in retention and recruitment after adopting a new salary guide; he noted the number of current openings moved around "about 55" during the hiring period but that staffing was substantially improved compared with prior years.
The board took no separate vote on the personnel announcements presented as recognitions and informational items; the personnel actions were included in the earlier consent items.
