Bolton PZC unanimously backs Land Trust letter to help buy 68-acre Brandy Street parcel

Tony Gorman, representing the Bolton Land Trust, told the commission the parcel abuts the Lombardi Preserve and would help connect open space to Heritage Farm. Gorman said the grantor expects "whole‑hearted community support" as part of its decision process.
Patrice Carson, Director of Community Development, provided commissioners with the property card and an open‑space map showing the parcel outlined in red. Carson said the lot is "not buildable," that adding it to town open space would advance Bolton’s 20 percent open‑space goal, and that taking the parcel off the tax rolls would reduce annual tax revenue by roughly $268 based on the listed assessment.
Sandra Pierog, First Selectman, described the parcel as a priority along the Rochambeau Route and noted the tax impact, saying the assessment was "slightly higher than $6,000," so the revenue loss is small relative to the public‑space benefit.
Thomas Manning moved and Arlene Fiano seconded a motion to send the Land Trust’s letter of support as submitted. The commission approved the motion 6‑0‑0.
The letter will be sent to the granting organization; the Land Trust has already obtained letters of support from the Conservation Commission, the Inland Wetlands Agency and the Board of Selectmen. The commission recorded no financial obligation to the town for the acquisition.
