Police Chief David Pernice recommended at the July 9 council meeting that the borough hire Kenneth Fye as a full-time police officer after he passed civil service testing and a background check.
The Civil Service Commission provided a certified list showing only one candidate met requirements and formally recommended Fye for hire. Chief Pernice said he had positive feedback on Fye and that the candidate had passed required checks.
Councilor Steadman moved to hire Kenneth Fye, but the motion died for lack of a second, and council did not take action on the hiring at the meeting. "None of Council provided any reason," Chief Pernice said later in the meeting, asking what he should tell the applicant. Council members agreed to revisit the hiring at a future meeting.
Because the motion failed, no employment contract or start date was set; council minutes record that the matter will return for future consideration.
