Council approves local grant increase, solar array and safety contracts, and appointments

The Superior Common Council on June 16 approved several local actions across grant, capital and appointment items.
Mayor Payne recommended increasing the Superior Med Spa small-business grant from $12,390 to the program maximum of $20,000; the council amended the previously authorized award and approved the increase by voice vote.
On public-safety items, council approved a Hunt Electric contract for solar panels at the north fire station with a contracted amount of $76,715 and net cost after expiring incentives of $53,700; staff estimated production around 49,000 kilowatt-hours annually. Council also approved a DSC contract to update alerting, electronic door access, exterior cameras and radio and communications equipment for the station.
The council confirmed Caitlyn Null as the Superior School District representative to the library and approved a range of committee recommendations from parks and licensing: the parks commission's naming of a pavilion at Woodstock Bay after Pat Curry and Gene Rosberg, lease arrangements for Twin Ports Rugby storage, and renewal or denial actions on retail alcohol and tobacco licenses according to the licensing committee's recommendations.
Votes on these items were taken by voice and roll-call where noted; all motions described above carried.
Next steps: staff will finalize grant paperwork, execute the approved contracts and implement the parks and licensing actions; the council expects follow-up reports at subsequent meetings.
