The Lago Vista City Council approved Resolution 26‑22‑12 authorizing the Texas Department of Transportation Aviation Division to act as the city's agent for design and reconstruction of Runway 15/33 and related airfield electrical work at the municipal airport.
City staff explained that preliminary inspections indicate the runway will need full repaving and base replacement. "The runway will have to be completely repaved," the city manager said, noting the scope will absorb the majority of available grant funds and that a preplanning meeting with TxDOT is scheduled in the coming weeks.
Council members asked about the local match and timing; staff said the city must identify roughly $650,000 as the local match for the FY2028 construction phase. Councillor Prince asked whether that match must be encumbered before FY2028; staff said the match would occur in FY2028. Councillor Patel (Mayor Pro Tem) urged that the match be highlighted in the future budget process.
The resolution passed unanimously. Staff said they will continue project planning and return with a financing and budgeting plan that includes the required local match and schedule for design and construction procurement.
Next steps: staff will meet with TxDOT for project preplanning, refine cost estimates, and present funding options to council in advance of the FY2028 construction year.
