Village honors Orlando Rivas with citizen valor award; Howard Green receives arts proclamation

At its June 15 meeting, the Village of Buffalo Grove presented a citizen award of valor honoring Orlando Rivas, who is credited with heroic actions at Buffalo Grove High School on April 21, 2026. Police Chief Bud and the police awards committee described Rivas as a school security officer and longtime juvenile probation officer who shielded students and "dedicated his life to protecting and serving others." The chief presented the award to Rivas's family and thanked the community for its turnout.
President Eric N. Smith also read a proclamation recognizing Howard M. Green for 25 years of service as music director of the Buffalo Grove Symphonic Band and his broader contributions to local arts. Mr. Green received the proclamation and declined extended remarks.
Manager Bragg introduced newly sworn Officer Kyle Odum, who said he was grateful for the opportunity to serve after joining the department June 8 and being assigned to field training.
