Nemaha County approves insurance renewal, budget overages and board appointments

The Nemaha County Board of Commissioners approved several fiscal and administrative actions during its June 17 meeting in Auburn.
The board voted to renew county property, vehicle and workers’ compensation insurance with NIRMA for fiscal year 2026–2027 at a 2.66% increase, a package totaling $176,940.00. Chairman Michael Weiss moved the renewal and Commissioner Bryan Mellage seconded; both commissioners voted aye (Commissioner Mike Hall was absent). The motion passed.
The board adopted Resolution 2026-22 to cover budget overages for the 2025–2026 year: Extension Office ($3,560.53), Veterans Service ($836.51) and Clerk of District Court ($643.26). The board also adopted Resolution 2026-23 approving a subdivision for Sharon Kluck in Section 16, T4N R15E; both resolutions were moved by Mellage, seconded by Weiss and approved by roll call.
The board approved appointments to the Nemaha County Extension Board, naming David Goertz, Kelly Kennedy and Liz Bergmann to fill positions. Commissioners also authorized the county to sign a Subrecipient Certification of Compliance with Foreign National Vetting Requirements for the Nebraska Emergency Management Agency, a procedural step tied to emergency-management grant compliance.
Routine accounts payable claims and vendor payments for general, road and disaster funds were approved and the county clerk was authorized to issue payments as listed in the minutes.
The meeting adjourned at 11:03 a.m.; the board will consider fuel bids for July at its next meeting on July 1, 2026.
