The Estill County Board of Education voted to approve a set of routine administrative and consent items at its June 18 meeting.
Approvals included: renewal of the district’s cyber security insurance; KSBA policy updates recommended to align with recent legislation (with an attorney-recommended change to require written confirmation in a specific procedure); updates to bank account signature authorities for certain school accounts; a June surplus list (vehicles, buses and equipment) and authorization for Superintendent Mr. Brock to sell listed surplus items using auction or other methods to maximize return; participation in EKU’s Upwardbound Spanish course that allows participating students to earn a summer Spanish credit; and a formal approval of the amended 2025–26 school calendar (a required formality before July 1).
Staff highlighted portions of the treasurer’s report, noting year-over-year general-fund expenditure differences of roughly $1.2 million in the district’s favor to date and described required life-safety/fire-alarm monitoring upgrades that will use cellular reporting rather than routing alarms across the district network. The board approved the consent items and each of the listed administrative motions; the transcript records most outcomes as "Motion carries" without a roll-call tally or itemized vote counts.
Next steps: staff will proceed with the vendor and policy implementations and follow the board’s direction on surplus sales and calendar administration.
