Select Board approves public-space permit application, wedding reservation and $138,500 in rink donations

The Mount Desert Select Board approved several routine public-space and administrative items, including allowing an applicant to submit a permit for a unique spot at the Northeast Harbor Village Green, approving a special-event application for a wedding, accepting donations for the town ice rink, and signing the town warrant for the May town meeting.

Selene Martin spoke to the board about a request to use an undesignated area "under the tree" at the Northeast Harbor Village Green to host a writers/readers table at the same time as the farmers market. Town staff said the spot is separate from the farmers-market footprint and the farmers market had no objection; the board agreed that Selene may file an application for the unique location. Selene thanked staff for their work.

The board also approved a public-space special-event application for Thomas Riley's wedding on Oct. 3, 2026, at the Seal Harbor Village Green. A separate motion accepted donations totaling $138,500 to support the town ice rink.

On an administrative finance item, board members approved writing off five uncollectible personal-property accounts totaling $3,927.30 (transcribed as 3,927.3), after staff explained that the legal costs of pursuing collection would exceed the amounts recoverable. The board also certified multiple ordinance amendments for public notice and voted to sign the warrant for the May 4–5 town meeting.

The board closed public comment after a resident asked about resource protection measures for alewives and then adjourned the meeting.
