Kindergarten registration shift tightens FY27 enrollment estimate, BOF to issue budget recommendations March 9

Superintendent Dr. Holly Hageman told the Marlborough Board of Education that the district advanced its kindergarten registration timeline to improve FY27 budget projections. The district had projected 59 incoming kindergarten students; as of the meeting 56 students were registered and Dr. Hageman said one to two additional students were likely to register.
William Guzman, the BOE’s Board of Finance liaison, summarized recent budget activity: the town manager presented the town’s operations and capital plan to the Board of Finance, and RHAM presented operating and capital budgets that include a 3.1% increase. Guzman said the Board of Finance is expected to make budget recommendations to the Board of Selectmen, Board of Education and RHAM on March 9.
Board members and administrators framed the earlier registration as a planning tool to tighten next fiscal year’s projections, but no formal budget votes were taken at the meeting. The BOE will use the updated enrollment figures as staff and the Board prepare for the BOF’s recommendations in early March.
