Marlborough forms school building committee and prepares for MES referendum in 2027

The Marlborough Board of Education reported that town officials have moved the district closer to a major-alterations project at Marlborough Elementary School. Dr. Holly Hageman, the superintendent, said the Board of Selectmen has appointed Board of Education representatives Amy Kuhrt and William Guzman to a newly established Marlborough Elementary School Building Committee (MESBC).
Dr. Hageman said the BOS set a target committee size of five members with three alternates and that the MESBC’s first meeting is anticipated in April or May. She said John, the district’s director of operations, is drafting a placeholder request for proposals (RFP) for an Owner’s Project Manager so that an OPM can be advising the MESBC next school year.
Board member Amy Kuhrt and Board of Finance liaison William Guzman will represent the BOE on the committee; the Board of Selectmen approved an official charge for the MESBC, Dr. Hageman said. The district intends to develop project specifications with the MESBC in advance of a referendum tentatively planned for May 2027.
The timeline sketched by district leaders places the OPM in position during the school year preceding the referendum to support planning and specification development. No project cost estimates or referendum question text were presented at the meeting. The MESBC’s membership, the OPM procurement, and the referendum schedule are the next procedural steps for the district.
