Marlborough director previews spring registration, kayak slip rentals and bids for new basketball hoops

Ray Bull, Marlborough Parks and Recreation Director, outlined operational items and preparations for spring and summer at the Feb. 9 special meeting.
"Registration for spring programs opens March 1st," Bull said, adding that registrations for the winter session have been strong. Bull also said kayak and canoe slip registration begins March 2; "We have 72 slips available for rent," he said, and rentals are $100 per slip with a maximum of two per person. The registration form is available on the town website and will be placed in the town hall vestibule.
Bull reported he has received quotes for new basketball hoops and for demolition/installation of the existing units. Because of the project’s cost, the work must go out to bid; Bull said he expects the project to be advertised for bids next week. On staffing, he said three lifeguards and six counselors have committed to return for the summer; he set a March 1 deadline for staff to confirm and said any remaining openings will be posted.
Bull also noted that three reflective 911 signs were sold last month. In response to a commissioner question about spring field mowing, Bull said Public Works is responsible for mowing town playing fields, the town green and cemeteries.
The commission took no formal votes on these operational items at the meeting; routine program registration and bidding steps are scheduled to proceed under staff direction.
