The selectmen on Feb. 17 tabled further action on athletic-field maintenance until their March 3 meeting to allow time for additional information gathering.
Town Manager David Porter outlined funding sources for maintenance and the trade-offs between hiring seasonal workers and employing a full-time person with benefits to handle field upkeep. Several youth baseball representatives, including Derek Blunt, provided a list of issues affecting Marlborough's ball fields.
Chair Susan McFarland moved to table the discussion until March 3 to collect more information; Louise Concodello seconded and the motion carried. The board did not adopt a staffing or funding plan at the meeting and requested follow-up materials to clarify costs and options.
