The Lake Placid Town Council approved a revised job description for the town administrator position and voted to open recruitment.
Councilmembers discussed the minimum and preferred qualifications in the posted description. The document sets a bachelor's degree as the minimum educational requirement and lists a master's degree in public administration, business administration, finance or a related field as preferred. Councilmembers requested adding preferred knowledge of Florida statutes on ethics, public records and the Sunshine Law to the preferred-qualifications list, and asked that candidates be screened with a ranking matrix during review.
Members also discussed operational expectations: the town administrator's role would include emergency-management leadership (hurricane response), a six-month performance review after appointment and annual reviews thereafter, and the usual compensation negotiation and benefits to be determined at the offer stage. The mayor said the salary range currently on the job description reflects benchmarks for similarly sized municipalities but that final compensation would be set during offer negotiations and could be revisited as needed.
Councilmember Royce moved to proceed with the job description and open the recruitment; the motion was seconded and approved by roll call.
