Orrville officials report to state leaders a possible energy shortfall after APPA legislative rally

Mayor Plybon reported that she, Utilities Director Brediger, Assistant Director Filippi and Utility Board member Messenger attended the American Public Power Association legislative rally in Washington, D.C., to advocate for public power and meet federal legislators.
Utilities Director Brediger told the council that the city submitted a report to the Ohio Governor’s office projecting that the state could face an energy shortage in the next two to three years. He attributed the projection to rapid growth of data centers, increased electric vehicle demand and the retirement or shutdown of generation assets across the state. According to the minutes, Senator Moreno raised the possibility of convening an energy summit with the governor to address concerns.
Council members did not take immediate action on the projection during the meeting. The delegation’s outreach to Ohio’s new senators and to federal staff was described as part of ongoing advocacy on energy matters.
