Orrville council approves minutes and hears street, utility and service updates

At its Oct. 21 meeting the Orrville City Council approved the Oct. 7 minutes, heard updates on OPWC street repairs and concrete work, learned the compost center and leaf-pickup schedules, and received utility and cybersecurity updates including a natural gas aggregation renewal at $4.12 per MCF.
The Orrville City Council on Oct. 21 approved the minutes of its Oct. 7 meeting on a motion by Councilmember Lax, seconded by Councilmember Carr; the vote was recorded as all ayes. The council also moved and approved adjournment later in the meeting.
Safety-Service Director Wheeler reported that OPWC street-project base repairs and concrete repairs are complete; surface paving work and painting of traffic lines were scheduled for the week following the meeting. Wheeler also said the compost center will be open for the last Wednesday on Oct. 30 and, in November, will operate Saturdays 8 a.m.–noon except Nov. 30. Trick-or-Treat is scheduled for Oct. 31 from 6–8 p.m., and leaf pickup begins Nov. 4.
Utility Director Brediger noted October is Cyber Awareness Month and said city IT personnel enhanced the firewall, intercepting more than one million attacks in just over a week. Brediger also said the city’s natural gas aggregation program renews Oct. 31 and that the city rate is $4.12 per MCF. Finance Director Strimlan told the council that changes to the 2024 appropriations and the 2025 temporary appropriations will be considered at the next meeting.
Mayor Plybon recognized Brenda Green from Utility Administration as October Employee of the Month and named Amelia Veemara and Brycen Khongphatthana as Orrville Elementary Citizens of the Month.
The council set its next regular meeting for Monday, Nov. 4, 2024, and adjourned at 7:54 p.m.
