Garfield council approves hires, insurance and routine business

The Garfield City Council approved several administrative and personnel measures at its March 11, 2025 meeting.
Personnel: A resignation letter from Ashley Young was received and Young’s last day was recorded as March 20, 2025. Mayor Gary Blackburn requested the council hire Eddie Hickman to replace Young. Council Member Teeselink moved to hire Eddie Hickman; Council Member Rambo seconded. Council Members Smead, Rambo and Teeselink voted yes and the motion passed.
Insurance: After discussion, Council Member Smead moved to obtain property insurance through the Arkansas Municipal League; Council Member Rambo seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
Routine business and financials: The council accepted committee reports (including a Planning Commission minute noting Eric Goldthorpe was sworn in) and accepted the February 2025 financial reports following a motion by Council Member Smead. Mayor Blackburn said Garland & Greenwood is expected to provide an engagement letter to perform the 2024 Agreed‑Upon Procedure. Blackburn also reported the Benton County Road Department identified unpaid dumpster charges from Feb. 2020–Jan. 2025; after sales tax the reimbursement amount is $10,711.35 and a city check is planned to be delivered next week.
Events: City spring events were announced: a Tree Giveaway on April 12, 2025 (8:00 a.m., Flying RF at 16601 Hwy 62) and City Spring Clean‑Up on April 26, 2025 (8:00 a.m., City Shop at 18446 Marshall St.). The council adjourned at 6:53 p.m.
