Orrville council meeting: appointments, utilities updates and schedule set for budget readings

At its Feb. 17 regular meeting, Orrville City Council handled routine administrative items alongside the resolutions described earlier.
Mayor Plybon announced the reappointment of Melissa Craemer Smith as Orrville’s representative to the Wayne County Board of Health for a three‑year term beginning Feb. 28, 2025; the appointment will be confirmed at the District Advisory Council meeting on March 3. The mayor also named Garrett Fetzer, a lineworker in the Electric Distribution Department, as employee of the month.
Utilities Director Brediger said staff are watching the statehouse budget, municipal funding and the kilowatt‑hour tax, and noted that he and other city representatives will attend the American Public Power Association legislative rally in Washington, D.C., next week. Brediger also reported a water main break on Lynn Drive due to freezing and thawing that affected about 10 customers.
Finance Director Strimlan outlined the schedule for final appropriations and readings: March 3 (workbooks sent and first reading), March 10 (workshop and second reading) and March 17 (final reading), and emphasized that a quorum will be required. Police Chief Cory Seiler presented the department’s 2024 annual report and council was referred to the copy on the department’s webpage. Service Department Superintendent Ryan Immel is scheduled to present that department’s annual report at the March 3 meeting.
