The Orrville City Council on Dec. 16 accepted recommendations from the Tax Incentive Review Council (TIRC) regarding tax abatements for two companies, following a staff memo distributed in advance.
Safety-Service Director Wheeler had circulated a memo summarizing the TIRC annual review of company reports. The TIRC recommended GMEG (Animal Supply at the Second Industrial Park) amend its employee numbers because business is down and the company is not meeting previously reported employee targets. The council also approved recommendations for Big Heart (Smucker's pet food), with staff requesting the abatement action be effective Jan. 1.
Squirrell moved to suspend reading requirements and adopt Resolution 46-24 accepting the TIRC recommendations; Shanklin seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
The council recorded no further amendment to the abatements in open session. No votes to rescind abatements were recorded; the action accepts the TIRC reports and forwards the adjustments as recommended.
