D'Orio said the 80th annual Buckeye Girls State ran June 7 nd 13 at Bowling Green State University and that applicants must demonstrate interest in government, strong character and leadership. She said participants contribute $50 toward attendance, with the auxiliary covering the remaining cost "approximately $350 per delegate," and that the auxiliary sent two students this year.
D'Orio urged support for the auxiliary's charity auction, held as part of Celebrate Poland on June 26 and 27. She described the auction format: local businesses and groups purchase Adirondack chairs, paint them in the year's theme (this year, Americana for the U.S. 250th), display them at the American Legion building at 35 Court Street in Poland, and sell raffle tickets. "We invite everyone to stop by, view our chairs, support our fundraiser," she said. Tickets are priced at $5 each or three for $10 and are listed on the group's Facebook page.
D'Orio thanked the board for the opportunity to speak and provided her address for the record. No formal county action was taken on the request; it was a public-comment appeal for community support.
