Youth baseball association asks Baltimore council to let it pursue indoor facility at Alt Park

Jeremiah Logue, representing the Baltimore Youth Baseball Association, told the Council on June 8 the association has spent five years working on Alt Park improvements and is now seeking permission to move forward with a large indoor facility project.
Logue described two building options the association is considering: an 80-foot-by-160-foot structure with an 18-foot interior height that would be turf, heated and cooled, and an 80-foot-by-128-foot design with two levels. He told Council, "The Association has the funds available from the bank, big sponsor, and local people that attend fundraising events," and asked Council for approval to begin the project.
Mayor Rick Ellas said he supports the BYBA and suggested a Council member work with the group to gather full project facts; Council designated James Carroll as the association’s representative. The Mayor and staff noted several prerequisites remain before construction (permitting, site placement and coordination with neighbors).
Later in the meeting visitor John Daft asked where the proposed building would be placed and urged consideration for residents along that road; the Mayor said there are steps that must be completed before construction can begin.
Next steps: Council’s designated representative will meet with BYBA to collect detailed plans, funding documentation and site placement information before any formal permitting or legislation is pursued.
