RSU 67 board reviews summer capital projects: brickwork, gym upgrades, HVAC, vans and outdoor classroom improvements

Intercoms and HVAC: intercom upgrades are scheduled for mid-July once purchase orders are issued. Staff said they will install a 36,000-BTU multi-head heat pump to serve the EPB front offices, replacing inefficient window units; similar office-level heat-pump work was completed at the bus garage to avoid running furnace systems for large thermal mass areas.
Gym divider and floor: the panel divider in the MA gym will be replaced with a modern curtain-style divider to avoid mechanical jamming and safety issues; work was scheduled to begin the Monday after homecoming (July 20). A contracted sanding and refinishing of the MA gym floor will follow, leaving the gym out of service into late summer; staff said summer users have been notified.
Flooring and vehicle procurement: staff plan refinishing work on original junior-high hardwood floors and select hall and library floors from the 1933 section; the equipment fund will support bidding for a 15-passenger van and a used van for special-education transport when funds are available.
Outdoor classroom and Bailey Fund grants: the district received a Bailey Fund grant to add pavilions, picnic tables and interpretive signage for an outdoor classroom; an additional Bailey Fund award will fund a chain-link fence near the junior-high shoreline rocks to reduce maintenance and improve safety during large events. Staff reported consulting a wildlife biologist about geese mitigation; the biologist said vegetation and a shoreline barrier could reduce goose use over decades (estimate given as roughly 30 years).
Fuel depot application status: staff said an application for a used fuel-storage facility is on hold because the specs for the specific tank (sourced from University of Maine/Thorntons) could not be located and the state application requires detailed tank specifications; the project is on the back burner until the proper documentation can be found.
Ending: the board received the updates and will consider any required follow-up actions and purchase orders in subsequent agenda items; no additional formal actions on these capital items were recorded during this update.
