PTO market permitted; board hears curriculum returns and summer safety plans

Miss Warner, representing the SHSD PTO, asked the board for permission to host the Steel High Market on Sundays with local food and craft vendors and said PTO volunteers would enforce school guidelines and clean up after events.
District staff later presented logistics for the parking-lot permission, and two board members announced abstentions from the vote because of family involvement in the PTA; the board recorded the outcome as a 6-0 yes with two abstentions. Administration specified vendor restrictions, including a prohibition on weapons, tobacco, alcohol and vaping products, and said handicap-accessible parking would be provided near the elementary entrance.
The board also heard program updates and community-coordination announcements: a member said the district is planning to bring back calculus and the honors program for next year and that efforts are underway to restore home economics. Mr. Slate reported the district is coordinating with the Stilwell Police Department for National Night Out on Aug. 4 and that robo calls reminding families of curfews will be sent to help police enforcement during the summer.
Miss Warner said the market is intended to draw the community together and to raise funds for PTO activities. "We believe this event will bring the community together while supporting our students and school," she said, asking for permission to use district facilities.
