City Attorney Andy Carothers informed the council that Southern Youth Sports (SYS) does not plan to field a legion baseball team in 2023, which automatically terminates the existing lease for the Arbor State Park baseball field. The council approved an acknowledgement of termination and authorized Mayor Collin Meints to sign the termination agreement.
Carothers also provided a draft new lease between the city and the American Legion for council members to review; the item was scheduled for the next meeting for formal consideration. Council members discussed options for the Gambles building downtown and directed City Attorney Carothers and Mayor Meints to meet again to determine how to move forward.
The minutes do not include lease terms, financial considerations, or a timetable for action on the American Legion lease or Gambles property; those details were deferred to future meetings and staff follow-up.
