Woodbury County schedules public hearings on proposed zoning changes for nuclear energy uses and accessory dwellings

The Woodbury County Board of Supervisors voted to receive recommendations from the county zoning commission and scheduled public hearings on proposed zoning‑text amendments that would address nuclear energy facilities, nuclear waste‑storage related uses and a reorganization of the zoning ordinance.
Dan Priestley of Planning & Zoning told the board the zoning commission recommended a conditional‑use permit process for general industrial zones and offered text changes to bring the county into compliance with a new Iowa code provision on accessory dwellings. Priestley said the recommendations are procedural steps in the ordinance‑amendment process; supervisors set public hearings for July 22, July 29 and August 5 at 4:40 p.m.
Supervisor Bener moved to receive the zoning commission’s recommendation and to schedule the hearings; the motions carried by unanimous voice vote. The board noted that subsequent public hearings will be the opportunity for residents and stakeholders to testify and that the record will guide any final adoption votes.
