The Woodbury County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a revision to the county employee handbook’s vacation policy for wage‑plan staff.
Melissa Thomas, Woodbury County Human Resources director, told supervisors the revision grants new employees 80 hours of vacation at the start of employment that cannot be used for the first 30 days. The policy also clarifies carryover rules and states that employees who leave within their first year are not eligible for a payout of accrued vacation.
Thomas said the policy is intended to aid retention and recruitment by providing paid time off while setting limits on early payouts. The board voted 4–0 to adopt the change without further amendment.
