The Rangely Town Council voted to designate Sept. 9 of each year as Dominguez‑Escalante Expedition Day with Resolution 2026‑06.
Dan, who described the town’s anniversary plans, said the town secured a $7,500 grant from the state of Colorado to support an exhibit marking the expedition’s 250th anniversary. He said the exhibit project involves Colorado Northwestern Community College and additional local investment that brings the project to "well over $10,000." The exhibit unveiling will coincide with an ice‑cream social; organizers also plan to participate in the Septemberfest parade in period costume and will host a Canyon Pintado Dominguez‑Escalante tour on Sept. 11.
Council members welcomed the resolution. One member encouraged organizers to coordinate the new observance with Septemberfest to boost attendance. Dan said Northern Arizona University is expected to participate again this year and that organizers are networking with other groups, including the Dominguez‑Escalante Expedition Education Project (DEEP).
Robbie moved to adopt Resolution 2026‑06; Jimmy seconded. The motion carried.
