Kanab library director reports smoother operations after Koha migration; new hire and February events announced

Library Director JanaLee Peay told the Kanab City Library Board on Feb. 4 that recent operational changes have begun to settle and highlighted upcoming programming.
Peay announced that Lisa Englund is a recent hire "doing really well so far," and reported that the library switched to the Koha integrated library system on Jan. 23. Staff member Dale resolved post-migration barcode-scanning problems that briefly disrupted circulation, Peay said.
The director provided usage statistics and an events schedule for February, noting a January 'Tree' class that drew about 140 attendees and the library's ongoing yoga series (25 classes, 318 participants). February events announced included a photo contest that ends Feb. 28 with voting to follow, a movie showing (Feb. 6: Smurf), a Prairie Dogs program on Feb. 11, and STEM Day on Feb. 10–11. The Friends of the Library were listed on the agenda but their representative, Denise Fuhrmann, was not in attendance.
The board also discussed how staff should respond when out-of-area patrons ask why they are ineligible for free access if they live outside Kanab city limits or in nearby Fredonia; no policy change was recorded in the minutes.
The meeting adjourned at 5:57 p.m.; the next meeting is scheduled for March 11, 2026 at 5:00 p.m.
