Council authorizes Civil Science task order for 1100 South roadway and sewer design ($219,700)

Kanab City Council authorized staff March 10 to sign a task order with Civil Science to design the 1100 South roadway improvements and a 10-inch sanitary sewer extension.
City Manager Kyler Ludwig said the task order covers surveying, right-of-way analysis, preliminary and final engineering, bidding support and construction administration with a proposed engineering cost of $219,700. The project corridor runs from the previously completed 1100 South improvements near Highway 89 east to Terrel Drive, a distance of roughly 4,100 linear feet (about 0.78 miles). Ludwig said the corridor is identified in the City’s Transportation Impact Fee Facilities Plan as a future major collector with a planned 66-foot right-of-way, but the immediate design will focus on a practical interim roadway section that preserves the ability to widen later.
Ludwig noted the engineering scope does not include full curb-and-gutter for the entire alignment to avoid significantly higher costs and that construction of roadway improvements will be coordinated with the sewer extension to reduce future disruptions. He estimated planning and design will take about 6–8 months.
Councilmember Shrope moved to authorize staff to sign the task order with Civil Science; Councilmember Chamberlain seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
Staff will proceed with the design contract and report progress as appropriate during the design and permitting process.
