Acting Captain Tanya Giggles of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s South Los Angeles Station presented the department’s public‑safety report covering June 1–15, highlighting a June 14 armed robbery and a separate fatal collision.
Giggles said Lennox deputies responded to an armed robbery at a 7‑Eleven on the 14600 block of Prairie Avenue on June 14. Deputies (Parga, Ramirez and Camacho) located and detained a suspect who resisted; officers recovered a loaded firearm from the suspect’s front pants pocket and recovered stolen money and items near a bush. Investigators determined the suspect had been involved in robberies at two other stores in Hawthorne earlier that morning and identified him as a neighborhood gang member. The suspect was arrested on charges that included robbery and possession of an unregistered firearm. Giggles said the suspect is not a Lawndale resident.
Separately, deputies responded around midnight to a vehicle‑versus‑pedestrian collision on Rosecrans Avenue near Avis Avenue. The male victim was transported to Little Company Hospital and was pronounced deceased by physicians; the driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Giggles said neither the driver nor the victim were Lawndale residents and that the cause of the crash is under investigation.
Giggles also reported one misdemeanor narcotics arrest during the reporting period and noted traffic enforcement issued 37 citations. She invited the community to a neighborhood watch meeting on June 17.
