Engineers report lake maintenance under way; residents raise standing-water and mold concerns after Tropical Storm Debbie

The River Ridge Community Development District heard updates on lake maintenance and stormwater after Tropical Storm Debbie at its Aug. 27 meeting.
Bill Kurth of Premier Lakes reported the lakes "appear to be in very good shape," said crews removed fallen trees from the Florida Power & Light ditch and outfall structure ahead of the impending tropical storm event, and noted a nano-bubbler repair for Lake H1‑B would be completed the next day. Premier Lakes has increased service frequency from quarterly to monthly during the rainy season.
District Engineer Charlie Krebs described the MRI Pinehurst valley-grate replacement project as about 80% complete and said some parts of the community received "almost 8" of rain in two or three days," while roads are designed for 5½" of rain over a 24‑hour period. He advised a possible additional drainage connection to Lake E1‑A to bypass pipes and inlets where appropriate.
A resident reported standing water allegedly coming up through a slab and said they believed it caused mold in their unit. Mr. Krebs said he does not believe the standing water is the cause because other units did not report similar issues, and he asked Mr. Long to address the matter on the next agenda for follow-up. On questions about allowing fire trucks to draw water from the lakes to lower levels, Mr. Krebs said that is not typical and would require approval from the South Florida Water Management District.
