Appomattox County supervisors adopt FY2027 appropriation, approve employee bonuses and several ordinances

Appomattox County Board of Supervisors on June 15 approved the FY2027 appropriation resolution and a set of ordinances and permits intended to finalize budget and operational matters before the start of the fiscal year.
The board voted to appropriate line-item funds for fiscal year 2027 effective July 1, 2026, after staff said the county’s school and Department of Social Services funding assumptions followed the governor’s budget and that state action could require later adjustments. A motion to adopt the appropriation resolution was made and seconded and the board approved the measure by voice vote.
Supervisors also approved an ordinance to change due dates for real estate, personal property, machinery and tools, and merchants’ capital taxes to formalize moving the due date to June 22 in years when notices are delayed; no members of the public spoke on that item. The board returned the Piney Mountain polling place to the Oakville/Rurton (Oakville Road) building after staff explained the alternate site was no longer available; the ordinance to relocate the polling place was approved.
On personnel, the board adopted an ordinance providing a 2% bonus for full‑time county employees based on each employee’s June 2026 base salary; payroll processing for the bonus is scheduled in July 2026. The measure was presented as applying to all full‑time positions, including constitutional offices and the department of social services.
The consent agenda, which included approval of bills and minutes and a special entertainment/event permit for a July 3, 2026 fireworks show by Francisco Display Fireworks LLC (doing business as Virginia Sky Painters) at 10063 Redhouse Road (Kohl’s Farm) in Mags, Virginia, was approved as presented.
The attorney reported no matters for the attorney’s report. The board later moved into closed session to consult with legal counsel on pending or probable litigation, municipal water‑supply agreements and a real‑property negotiation (the Oakville lot at 181 Piney Mountain Road), then returned to open session and adjourned.
Actions at the meeting will be carried out according to the advertised timetables and the county’s standard administrative processes.
