BZA discusses annual report, alternates and enforcement updates; continues one hearing to March

Maria said the planning department’s 2025 annual report — which summarizes activity including common variances and special exceptions — will be posted on the department website and sent to board members; it will be presented to the Board of Commissioners on March 31.
The board discussed appointing alternate BZA members; Dean Fout volunteered as an alternate from the plan commission and staff will follow up to confirm additional nominees from other towns.
The board accepted a petitioners’ request to continue hearing item number three (special exception 262660) to the March 26 meeting; the motion carried by voice vote.
Dennis (enforcement staff) reported three ongoing enforcement matters: a US 40 property with past violations where a new owner has initiated a pre‑filing meeting aimed at remedy; a Fortville property cited for outdoor dumping and potential unpermitted commercial activity where the owner plans to seek a home‑occupation permit; and a North Fortville Pike case with a planned March meeting to address violations. Dennis said filing or meetings were expected within the next days to weeks for those matters.
With no further business the board adjourned by voice vote.
