The Calcasieu Parish Planning & Zoning Board on June 16 approved several land‑use requests in addition to the Southern Prairie Solar exception.
The board approved a zoning exception for 7236 Olsen Road in Ward 4 to allow two accessory buildings without a main dwelling and to exceed the parish 2,000 square‑foot accessory limit (requesting 3,626 square feet). Planning staff recommended approval with conditions including adherence to the site plan on file and required development permit; there were no public‑comment blue cards and the motion passed.
The board also approved a rezoning request by Riviera Realty (RZ05260005) to change a parcel at the 300 block of Bunker Road from C3 (Central Business Commercial) to I1 (Light Industrial) to allow a contractor shop and storage. Staff recommended conditions: follow the submitted site plan, orient exterior lighting inward and match the submitted exterior renderings. No opposition was recorded during the hearing.
A third item, RZ05260006, rezoned 3032 Highway 1256 from mixed residential R2 and general commercial C2 to C3 to permit an intensive recreational facility (a health club). Staff recommended approval with conditions, including DOTD and Louisiana Department of Health approvals where applicable, a runoff management plan (or waiver), stormwater best‑management practices and required screening per parish code. The applicant said an environmental study was under way and that demolition permits would be sought as needed. The board voted to approve the rezoning with the listed conditions.
All three items were approved with the staff‑recommended conditions listed in the meeting record. The chair announced the next regularly scheduled Planning & Zoning meeting will be held Tuesday, July 21, 2026, and the board adjourned.
