Community education reports busy summer, playground dedication and childcare initiative

Chris O'Brien, the district's community education director, told the board the district hosted a May 13 playground dedication attended by more than 200 people and supported by local sponsors, service groups and vendors. He said the event's volunteers and community partners made the dedication a successful community collaboration.
O'Brien said preschool classes are full (about 19 four-year-olds and 13 three-year-olds), and community education began a full slate of summer offerings: 67 courses with reported registrations of about 1,700 and 593 unique participants. He noted popular offerings such as preschool T-ball, soccer and an elementary track program with 45 participants. PAUSE programming is operating under 86 contracts with an average of about 50 kids per day.
The director announced a community childcare initiative meeting to launch the district's Community Solutions Action Plan on Monday, June 29 at Corona Brewery (registration was extended to maximize participation); he encouraged broad community turnout. The board also thanked district staff for assistance to the King Community Service Center and acknowledged donations that supported a Full Belly Bucks food distribution program through June 10.
No formal board action was required on these items; presenters asked the board to help spread word about upcoming events and registration deadlines.
