District posts updated local literacy plan; officials say Read Act goals met

District literacy leaders told the board the Paynesville Public School District's second local literacy plan is now posted on the Minnesota Department of Education website and reflects new Read Act requirements.
Cassie Aerson credited local literacy lead Maria for compiling the 27-page plan and said the district met its previous literacy goals around early reading fluency. Maria (the local literacy lead) explained updates required by the Minnesota Department of Education: the plan now includes revised Read Act goals, an inventory of screening tools (FastBridge and CAP-style assessments to identify dyslexia characteristics), a new screening-summary requirement for grades 4 through 12, and an updated list of literacy intervention resources.
Maria said the CAP recommendations largely confirmed interventions the district already uses and that MDE now pulls FastBridge data for reporting. She said next steps include a deeper data dive in the fall, continued emphasis on structured literacy in Tier 1 instruction and updated targets in the plan based on current results.
No vote was required; the plan is posted for public access and will be subject to ongoing review as baseline measures are refined.
