Audubon County supervisors approve farm MMP updates, IT server room and claims; hear public safety and health updates

The board voted to approve DNR Manure Management Plan annual updates for multiple operations (Randy Bruch #58536; Handlos-Rudolph #57972; Handlos-Wegner #64333; Lauritsen #62651; South Fork #63613; Jensen Farm Pork #62686) on a motion recorded as "Hansen moved; Mosinski seconded; all in favor." The minutes list the successful motion but do not provide an itemized roll-call tally.
Corey Eberling said APEX awarded Audubon County Emergency Management a community grant to purchase a drone equipped with thermal imaging; county officials said the drone will aid emergency response and aerial situational awareness. Eberling also said March 10 is the next landowner meeting and that applicants this round were numerous.
Planning & Zoning Director Tiffany Henkle reported that the Board of Adjustment approved a front-yard setback variation for a remodel that places an addition in the right-of-way; she also said she had not yet heard back from a resident about a proposed memorial sign on Gray Highway. The board approved construction of an IT server room at the Secondary Roads location (motion recorded as Mosinski moved, Hansen second; vote "all in favor").
Public Health updates from Jotham Arber noted increased referrals from area hospitals in January, ongoing immunizations and CPR classes with a planned "stop the bleed" addition, and the start of monthly free clinics at the Exira office once scheduling is finalized.
During public comment Anna Schleimer of the National Guard announced a community engagement event on April 24, 2026, with a business leader program and luncheon featuring Major General Osbourne and invited supervisors to attend. Monte Dreher raised a safety concern about two dogs in Hamlin that he said had been attacking livestock and killed a pet cat; Sheriff Todd Johnson reviewed applicable state code for handling problematic animals and said a county resolution could be drafted and updates would appear on next week’s agenda.
The board set a separate public hearing on the FY27 proposed property tax levy for March 24, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. and approved department claims totaling $45,671.38 and a $20.00 publication request from the County Attorney. The meeting adjourned at 12:27 p.m.
