Broken Bow Library reports rising usage, new roof and Storywalk in annual report

Library Director Megan Svoboda presented the Broken Bow Library Annual Report to the City Council on Jan. 27, 2026, describing a year of increased public use and infrastructure work.
Svoboda told the council the library completed a Storywalk at Melham Park, installed a new roof, increased its budget and added a new staff member during fiscal year 2024–2025. She said visits increased 11%, study and meeting room usage rose 74%, and checkouts were up 8%, which the report characterizes as producing $732,775 in savings for library patrons. Svoboda said the report keeps the library in compliance with state statutes and outlined goals for the coming year.
City Administrator David Schmidt added that the annual report documents city and taxpayer involvement and highlighted the role of an active Library Foundation that raises money to support projects. Mayor Rod Sonnichsen praised Library Director Svoboda for her leadership and for “raising the bar” for the library’s services.
