Jordan Primes, who introduced the Parks and Recreation administration report, said the department has wrapped up its spring pickleball season and is planning several summer programs. “We just wrapped up our spring pickleball season. We had three champions,” Primes said, adding the next season will begin in the fall to coincide with the school calendar.
Primes announced summer yoga classes led by instructor Michelle Pugh and a new Yoga in the Park program at Nealon Park consisting of three Friday-night sessions in July, August and September. He also said a Field Day will be held July 8 from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Kneeland Park; last year's event was postponed because of a heat wave, so the date was moved earlier in the month this year.
The department will launch a six-week Movies in the Park series starting July 10. Primes listed films scheduled for the series: Inside Out, How to Train Your Dragon 2, Monsters University, Grown Ups (teen night), Despicable Me 4 and Coco. He said several sponsors had already committed: Peninsula Credit Union, YMCA, Fiorito Magazine, Hood Canal Communications, Mason County Substance Abuse Coalition, Christmas Town Coram and Tolly's Cafe.
Primes said flyers will be circulated soon and offered to provide hard copies to board members on request. The update concluded with a routine wrap-up and scheduling note: the Quality Parks meeting is set for Sept. 15 at 5:45 p.m.
