Patty Herzog, executive director of MEDP, told commissioners seismic retrofits are an eligible project under the state ordinance and said outreach and information sessions will be held to raise awareness. "Seismic retrofits are an eligible project under the state ordinance," Herzog said, adding that MEDP has had four inquiries since January and expects more interest as the program is fully established.
Commissioners discussed fee and cost‑recovery structure; Herzog confirmed the current fee schedule is 1 percent of financed amount with a minimum fee of $2,500 and a maximum of $15,000. Commissioners also asked whether seismic retrofits—often high‑cost projects—would attract applicants; Herzog said while none had been submitted yet, building rehabilitation inquiries suggest seismic work could be included.
The board discussed administrative responsibilities and confirmed cost recovery will be addressed through the application and fee structure. With unanimous approval, the ordinance was adopted and the MEDP administration agreement was ratified; the program is effective immediately per the emergency finding.
