Park County commissioners opened a search for a new finance director after staff announced the incumbent submitted a resignation effective May 15.
"So we received our finance director's resignation on May 15, and they're [with the county] over 10 years now," Jackie Stephenson said, noting the county would post and hire to fill the role. Commissioners thanked the outgoing director and voted to post the position.
The board then discussed and agreed on a hiring committee. Jackie Stephenson and commissioners proposed a committee composed of two elected officials and two department heads; online commenter Sabina Strauss urged the commission to choose an odd number of participants and to consider including a member of the public. Commissioners named Kevin Larkin, Angeline Gelderloos, Matt Whitman and Mike Invent to the committee and approved the appointment.
To ensure continuity during the transition, staff described a finance and budget "transition team" to handle day-to-day operations. "Payroll will be Maritza. Accounts payable will be Kendra... And all questions related to budget will be Trent," staff said; the commission approved appointing Maritza Redington, Kendra Fox, Trent Velestri and Mary Ann Keys to the transition team.
The board also moved on a package of operational items. Commissioners voted to terminate the contract with WDC Industrial Incorporated and approve a replacement arrangement after legal review. On IT, staff recommended moving Taxwise and the treasurer—s systems to Tyler hosting to meet cybersecurity and modernization needs; staff said the accounting department—s cost would increase by about $2,000 and the treasurer—s increase would be larger. The commission approved the hosting quotes and the transition.
Finally, commissioners approved using a commission laptop budget to purchase one laptop and two docking stations for the finance office to support remote work and year-end processing.
The meeting ended with routine commissioner remarks and no further action announced on the finance search timetable.
