Community group urges deletion of proposed Burnham Woods connector to protect Spring Creek Greenway

Chad Price of the Community Association of Harmony told the commission he had mailed 101 letters and heard unanimous opposition from the public to a proposed connector across southern Montgomery County that would link into Harris County. Price said the connector would bisect the Spring Creek Greenway and Plunt Park and would destroy trail networks and habitat.
"It would literally destroy that park," Chad Price said, adding that outreach showed no support and that Montgomery County had removed the connector from its own major thoroughfare plan.
Commissioners asked whether deletion or reclassification should consider segments already platted and partly built. A commissioner noted that some right‑of‑way and half of a boulevard had already been dedicated and constructed, asking whether the group had examined reclassification alternatives that would avoid leaving a partially built boulevard.
Speakers emphasized environmental and recreational impacts, noting that the route would cross trails and contiguous green space and that alternatives or reclassifications should be considered for already developed segments. No formal action was taken at the July 25 hearing; staff suggested coordination among the association, planners and county representatives to reconcile map language with constructed right‑of‑way.
