City Clerk-Treasurer Dee Blackmon told the council on June 8 that budget preparations are underway, that budget materials have been distributed to department heads and that departmental requests are due the following week. She said she and Mayor Jae’Ques Brown will review allocations and priorities during the budget development process.
Blackmon reported the Fiscal Year 2024 audit has been completed. "The General Fund concluded the fiscal year with an approximate positive balance of $28,000, while overall City finances reflected approximately $2 million in positive balances," she said. She also noted two recently approved municipal vehicles are scheduled for delivery—one for Public Works and one for Building & Grounds.
Blackmon indicated meetings will be held with each department head to review needs and priorities; no specific budget amounts or department-level tradeoffs were discussed at the meeting.
