Oley Valley track athletes honored at board meeting after state and district successes

Coaches and district representatives highlighted a banner season for Oley Valley track and field at the June 16 Oley Valley School District board meeting, celebrating relay and individual district champions, multiple school-record performances and state placings.

Associate head girls coach Stormy Russell told the board the girls won their division for the first time in many years, placed sixth at the state meet and broke multiple school records, including the girls 4x8. "Their longevity and their success is really a result of that grit and that drive," Russell said, praising athletes who began training far earlier than the official season.

Assistant head boys coach Dan Shaffer and the district acknowledged that the boys team won the district three championship — the school's first team title since 1969 — and that individuals and relay squads posted county, district and state placings. Shaffer and presenters named athletes who set school records and noted that 10th-grader Jacob Adams won county, district and state titles and set the district record; he is expected to pursue further national competition.

The board and audience gave multiple rounds of applause as athletes and coaches were invited to circulate through the meeting to receive congratulations. The district encouraged families and community members to continue supporting fundraising efforts — including volunteer coach/athletic trainer Scott Goodwin’s pole purchases to sustain the pole-vault program.

The recognitions were informational and ceremonial; no board action was required.
