Venice commission confirms appointments, names Bethany Pruitt city secretary following executive session

At its June 16 meeting the Venice City Commission approved multiple appointments to city advisory bodies and boards, including a liaison to the Historic Landmark Commission, appointments to the Historic Landmark Commission and Zoning Board of Adjustments, reappointments to the Airport Advisory Board, and members for the Keep Innis Beautiful board and the Crime Control and Prevention District board.
Following a closed executive session under the Texas Government Code, the commission appointed Bethany Pruitt as city secretary effective June 27, 2026, and authorized the mayor to negotiate and execute an employment contract. The commission also approved a motion authorizing the city manager to pursue negotiations regarding property for a public-works facility.
The appointments and post-executive-session actions were approved by voice votes. The mayor and commissioners thanked outgoing city secretary Angie Waite for her years of service during the meeting's recognition items.
